Making Storm Bangles

Penguin absolutely loves the weather. His stories are made up of lightening and tornadoes! So, inspired by the beautiful handmade bracelets in Michelle Powell’s book Paper Craft book, we set out to create some storm bangles. I thought Penguin would love to wear them while he acted out his stories. I feel it’s great to encourage imaginative play. So let’s see what happened!

I first made cardboard tubes from old cereal packets (toilet rolls would have been a bit too small for little wrists!)

Then with some help from Little Missy we covered round them in strips of newspaper using wall paper paste. We wanted them to be really strong so they could cope with lots of play.

I painted the background colour in a rich blue using acrylic paint and then got to work on the main design.

I realistically could fit three different types of weather on each bangle. So as Penguin has two arms, here’s what I came up with.

Tornado, Sunshine, Rainbow, Snow, Rain and Lightening.

I was super pleased with the result and excited watching Penguins imagination come to life!

Where does your little ones imagination take you? Out into space? Hunting for Dragons? To the next Rabbit Party?
